KUCHING, Jan 10: A quiet morning walk turned grim when the body of an unidentified man was discovered along a pedestrian walkway near the Rejang Esplanade in Sibu yesterday (Jan 9).
Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said police received a call at about 8.55am on a lifeless man found beneath the staircase of Pump Station No. 4, Jalan Maju.
“Initial investigations found that the victim did not have any identification documents, and his age is estimated to be in his 40s.
“A preliminary examination also did not find any external injuries or elements of criminal activity,” he said, according to a TVS news report.
Zulkipli said the case has been classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR), with the man believed to be a homeless individual frequently seen in the area.
“It is understood that the victim was found by members of the public in a stiff condition and is believed to have died several hours before being discovered,” he said.
According to him, police reached the scene at about 9am to begin investigations before a medical officer confirmed the death.
Zulkipli said the body was later taken to Sibu Hospital in a police vehicle at about 10am for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death. — DayakDaily
