Man fined RM2,500 in court after threatening to kill wife

KUCHING, Sept 30: A man who had threatened to kill his wife out of jealousy was fined RM2,500 by the Magistrate’s Court.

Caston Sigor, 39, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for the offence of criminal intimidation.

Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali accepted his guilty plea and convicted him as charged.

He was sentenced to a fine of RM2,500 or in default to four months’ imprisonment.

He was found guilty of threatening to kill his 35-year-old wife, near a security guardhouse in Siburan Hospital (Clinic 3), at about 5.30pm on Sept 24.

According to the brief facts of the case, on the day of the incident, the accused had forced the victim to go home with him but the victim refused as she was afraid of being beaten by the accused.

The accused then grabbed the victim’s bag and took her mobile phone before throwing the bag into a drain near the security guardhouse.

Subsequently, the accused then threatened to kill the victim, which prompted the victim to lodge a police report to protect herself and her family members.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
