KUCHING, July 13: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a man to a fine of RM2,000 or in default to two months’ imprisonment for assaulting his brother-in-law while under the influence of alcohol.
Akmal Fazrin Sahari, 28, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code, which carries a maximum penalty of imprisonment for up to one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
He was accused of committing the offense against his 59-year-old brother-in-law, at a house in Taman Tatai Kumang, Jalan Siol Kandis Petra Jaya, at about 7pm on July 10.
According to the brief facts of the case, the accused, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident, suddenly became aggressive and punched the victim’s face, bruising the latter’s left eye.
Subsequently, the victim lodged a police report, leading to the accused’s arrest on the same day at around 8.50pm.
