SIBU, July 31: A man is feared to have drowned after going missing while fishing at Tanjung Latap last night.
The man, 49 from Rumah Dana, Tanjung Latap.
Sibu Fire and Rescue Department chief Andy Alie said they received a call regarding the incident at 9.56pm.
“According to witnesses, the victim is said to have gone fishing at Sungai Rejang. At the time of the incident, the water was low and the weather was clear. The victim is said not to have surfaced after going down to the water where the distance from the bank to the river water at the time of the incident was about 20 metres,” he said.
He said, firefighters conducted a ‘size up’ and monitoring of the missing man’s last known location but were unable to locate the man.
At 11.40pm on instructions from the police, the search and rescue operation (SAR) for the missing man was suspended and will resume this morning. — DayakDaily
