Man faces death penalty for drug trafficking

KUCHING, Nov 30: A young man was sentenced to death by hanging at the High Court here today after being found guilty of trafficking dangerous drugs in 2017.

High Court Judge Azhahari Kamal Ramli imposed the sentence on Lee Gnan Hoe, 31.

Lee was faced with two charges. He was charged under paragraph 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under subsection 39B(2) of the same Act for trafficking 482.8 grams of Methamphetamine on October 3, 2017, at about 5.20pm at the car garage of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters.


As for the second charge, he was charged under subsection 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under subsection 12(3) of the same Act for possessing 111.86 grams of Ketamine.

Lawyer Fung Lee Fook represented the accused while Deputy Public Prosecutor Hayda Faridzal prosecuted. — DayakDaily
