KUCHING, Mar 28: A 29-year-old man believed to be high on drugs, has been arrested by police after leading them on a car chase along Kuching-Serian Road on Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 6.35am when the suspect, driving a white Honda City, refused to stop at the police roadblock set up at 11th Mile, running over a blockade and against the flow of traffic onto the road heading from Siburan.

According to the police, they followed the suspect’s car to 12th Mile and had ordered the suspect to get out of his car but the suspect sped away instead.

The police later used a four-wheel drive to stop the suspect from the driver’s side of the suspect’s vehicle and were later assisted by a police MPV from behind the suspect’s car.

Another police 4WD joined the pursuit, managing to block the suspect from the front but the latter still tried to evade capture by ramming into the police 4WD flanking him.

The suspect later managed to escape by reversing his car, crashing into the police MPV behind his vehicle, almost running over the police inspector on the right side of his vehicle.

The pursuit continued, and the suspect later collided into a civilian’s car, finally ending the car chase at the 13th Mile roundabout.

The suspect still tried to get away on foot, but was caught by the police.

The man from Melaka was later tested positive for drugs and a small packet of unknown substances, believed to be drugs, was found in his car.

The suspect was later brought to the police station and will be remanded for further investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.—DayakDaily
