Man dies after house collapses at Jln Stampin Baru, cops appeal for info from public

KUCHING, Jan 4: A 58-year-old man died when his house collapsed early this morning at Jalan Stampin Baru.

A spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (Bomba) operations centre said the body of Lim Inn Tong was found under piles of debris.

“A call on the incident was received at around 2.50am and firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya station were despatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, members of the public informed the team that there was a victim trapped inside the collapsed house,” said the spokesperson.

An operation was then launched to locate and rescue the victim, who was found unconscious.

At 4.05am, the victim was extricated and confirmed dead by medical officers from the Health Ministry before being handed over to the police for further action.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah urged the public not to speculate as the incident is being investigated.

“Anyone with information on the incident can contact investigating officer Abdur Ghani Bigik at 013-8954711, the IPD Kuching operations centre at 082-244444 or come to the nearest police station,” he said. — DayakDaily
