KUCHING, July 19: An unemployed young man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today to raping a 16-year-old girl last year.
The accused, 19, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before the judge.
He was alleged to have raped the girl in a room located at Kampung Semariang Batu at about 8.30pm, in May, 2018.
He was charged under Section Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries maximum 20 years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
DPP Nurfadzlin Mahmad Zulhasnan prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. However, he told the Court that he will engage a Counsel for his trial.
The Sessions Court Judge fixed Aug 15 for pre-trial case management and set bail at RM10,000 with two local sureties. — DayakDaily
