SERIAN, August 14: A 37-year-old man was arrested at his house at about 7pm yesterday for allegedly raping his seven-year-old niece.
This follows a police report lodged yesterday by the suspect’s sister-in-law, who is the victim’s mother.
According to Serian district police chief DSP Aswandy Anis, a preliminary investigation revealed that the incident allegedly first unfolded at a picnic area in Ranchan Pool when the victim was alone with her uncle.
While bathing in the river, the suspect reportedly inserted his finger into the victim’s private part.
The following day, the victim’s mother sought help from the suspect to look after her daughter as she had to sell farm produce in Serian market.
The victim’s father was at the time in Kuching, taking care of their youngest daughter, who is sick, at Sarawak General Hospital. Hence, the victim was left at the suspect’s house.
As no one else was with them at the house, the suspect allegedly took the victim to his bedroom and raped her.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Child Sexual Offenses Act 2017. — DayakDaily
