KUCHING, July 21: Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that a report was received on July 20 regarding an incident involving the smashing of a car windshield that occurred at Jalan Central Timur here.
In a statement, he said that during the incident, which reportedly occurred at approximately 6.20am, the complainant, who was serving as a marshal for a running event, had parked his vehicle by the roadside at the venue.
Suddenly, an unidentified man approached the vehicle, picked up a rock, and smashed it against the car’s windshield, causing damage.
Acting on information from the public, police managed to apprehend the suspect, a 52-year-old local man, nearby.
“The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in damage exceeding RM25. If convicted, the suspect could face a jail sentence of up to five years, a fine, or both,” he said.
Police are still conducting further investigations into the motive behind the incident and the suspect’s background.
