Man arrested for attacking brother over money issues

MIRI, August 13: Police on Saturday (Aug 11) afternoon arrested a man in his 40’s after he attacked and injured his own brother during a dispute over money in Tudan Phase 2.

The arrest was made around 12.45pm following a report lodged earlier over the attack.

According to sources, prior to the incident, the siblings were quarreling and the suspect was seen chasing the victim (the suspect’s elder brother) outside their house in Tudan Phase 2 while wielding an iron cane at around 11.30am.


Miri city police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when confirming the case on Sunday said, the suspect holds a card for person with disabilities (OKU).

Their mother and next door neighbours who witnessed the incident immediately called the police for assistance.

Following the incident, the elder brother has been warded in Miri Hospital to receive treatment for injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are unemployed.

“They collect cardboard boxes to support their daily life,” said Lim.

According to sources, prior to the incident, the suspect had asked for some cash from the victim but was denied.
Furious, the suspect began to attack the victim using an iron cane.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by means of an instrument. — DayakDaily
