KUCHING, April 11: A local 41-year-old man was arrested for his involvement in an armed robbery case that took place at a 24-hour convenience store at Jalan Pending here on April 9.
In a media release, acting Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said that at 7.11pm on April 9, a 20-year-old woman who was working at the counter of the convenience store was approached by the suspect who carried a sharp weapon.
He pointed the weapon at the woman and proceeded to take RM500 from the counter. On April 10, a police report on the incident was received.
“At around 11pm on April 10, a police team from the Bintawa station arrested a man who is the suspect in the case within the Bintawa area and seized a helmet, a cutter knife, and the clothes the suspect wore during the incident.
“During an interrogation, the suspect admitted his involvement in the case, and his drug screening test came back positive,” he said.
He added that the suspect is remanded for five days until April 16, and another interrogation will be carried out to determine his involvement in other cases.
The case will be investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail sentence of up to 14 years, a fine, or whipping.
Meanwhile, the police urge the public to channel any information on suspicious individuals to the Kuching IPD control centre at 082-24444 or visit the nearest police station. — DayakDaily
