Man, 51, found dead in rented house at Jalan Song

KUCHING, May 1: A 51-year-old man was found dead in a rented house at Jalan Song, here, after a concerned citizen alerted the authorities regarding a dog carcass inside the house compound.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the house owner revealed that the deceased, a vegetable supplier to a supermarket, has rented the house for the past 12 years.

“Initial investigation revealed that was no criminal element in the incident and the deceased’s personal belongings such as wallet, cash, and mobile phone including few medicine packages, were found at the location.

“The case is classified as sudden death and is still under investigation,” he said in a statement.

According to Awang Din, the police received information from a caller saying that a dog had died inside the house compound at Jalan Song, around 9.05am on Thursday (April 29).

He said the house owner also requested for police assistance in order to enter the house compound, after failed attempts to contact the tenant.

“Police officers arrived at the scene and when they entered the house, smelled a foul odour coming from the top floor of the house.

“Together with the medical officers and the firefighters, the police went to the upper floor and found the body of a man inside the bathroom,” he added.

He said the deceased’s body was sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for Covid-19 test, before undergoing postmortem, while the dog’s remains were sent to the veterinary lab in Muara Tuang, to find the cause of death. — DayakDaily
