MIRI, Jan 31: A 44-year-old man was killed after he was run over by a car on Thursday night near Kampung Padang Kelulit along the Miri coastal road.
According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the deceased was identified as Ampenit Apau from Rumah Suring Saeh Merah.
“Ampenit died on the spot due to injuries he sustained in the 11.20pm incident,” he said.
Prior to the accident, the car was heading towards Miri from Bintulu. Upon reaching the site of the accident, the deceased had suddenly appeared in the middle of the road.
“The driver could not break in time to avoid the crash,” said Alexson. The driver was unharmed in the accident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. —DayakDaily
