KUCHING, May 14: The state government is working on solving the issue of unused telecommunication towers in the State.
In stating this, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the government knew that there are many telecommunication towers without any service.
“It is being sorted out at the State leadership level and will be resolved and rectified as soon as possible,” Dr Jerip told reporters today.
He also said that the government is working on bringing telco service providers to extend their services at existing telecommunication towers in the State.
He said this after officiating at the opening of a talk on current issues for the Mambong constituency attended by community leaders from the area at the Padawan sub-district office along Jalan Borneo Heights.
Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman, also said that Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) had identified the sites for the erection of telecommunication towers in the area, particularly in the Upper Padawan area near the border with West Kalimantan.
According to him, the contractors have been identified and awarded the contract.
“For the projects, the contract has been awarded, and we hope that works will be expedited,” Dr Jerip pointed out.
He also said that the Padawan sub-district office would coordinate on the application of Unifi connection in the Mambong area.
He said the availability of the service would need at least five applications from each village. — DayakDaily
