Mall director apologises for his ‘inappropriate’ behaviour

KUCHING, Dec 5: CityOne Megamall director Jonathan Long today apologised for his “inappropriate” action shortly after an explosion rocked the mall yesterday. A video showing him confronting a man who was filming the scene of the explosion that destroyed a newly renovated food outlet in the mall went viral yesterday.

“I would like to sincerely apologise to this gentleman for my aggression and my act that was obviously inappropriate and wrong,” he told reporters covering follow-up inspections by various authorities at the site of the explosion.

Long, who was inside the food outlet to inspect the final touches, explained that he was in a state of shock after walking out from the blast, in which everything collapsed.

“I was aware that there were many workers inside, and the first thing that came to my mind was the safety of the people. So, in that state of shock, it led me to act inappropriately.

“The reason I stopped the man from taking the video was obviously to protect the privacy of the victims and try to prevent unnecessary speculation of the scenario,” he added.

While the management is still waiting for the full report from the relevant authorities, Long stressed that the mall’s management had no answers yet as to the causes or circumstances of the explosion that killed three people and injured 41 others.

“Like what Mr Stephen Long (managing director) has mentioned, we are providing our utmost support to the victims, family members as well as families of the deceased,” he added. — DayakDaily
