CityONE blast: Mall management claims trial to charge

KUCHING, Sept 24: CityONE Mc Sdn Bhd has claimed trial at the Session’s Court, here, today, in relation to the fatal blast at CityONE Megamall last December.

The company, through its director Stephen Long, pleaded not guilty before Session’s Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad.


The court fixed Oct 15 for pre-trial case management.

The company is facing a charge framed under Section 18(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, which carries a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or two years’ imprisonment or both, upon conviction.

An electronic and electrical company are also facing charges in relation to this case, which is the gas contractor, Sim Nyen Electronic, and a sub contractor Chia Yit Siong.

These cases were brought before Session’s Courts by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).

Four parties were charged in different Session’s Court in Kuching including Borneo Landmark (M) Sdn Bhd, the main contractor.

They were charged under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.

CityONE Mc Sdn Bhd is represented by Counsel JB Singh and Alvin Yong, while prosecuting officer Safwan Lokman prosecuted. — DayakDaily
