Malaysia sees 3,306 Covid-19 cases and four deaths

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 18: Malaysia reported 3,306 new cases of Covid-19 and four new deaths due to coronavirus today.

The information was disclosed by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press statement.


He noted out of the 3,306 cases, seven cases were imported while the balance of 3,299 cases were local transmission which involved 2,198 citizens and 1,101 foreigners.

With the additional new cases reported, Dr Noor Hisham said the cumulative cases of Covid-19 in Malaysia has increased to 161,740 cases.

He added there were four new deaths which brought the death toll due to Covid-19 for the country to 605.

Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor continued to report a high number of daily cases with 1,213 cases followed by Sabah (432 cases), Johor (329 cases) and Kuala Lumpur (250 cases).

The cases from other states include Melaka (156 cases), Kelantan (150 cases), Penang (145 cases), Kedah (142 cases), Negri Sembilan (126 cases), Perak (114 cases), Sarawak (100 cases), Pahang (84 cases), Terengganu (20 cases), Perlis (16 cases), Putrajaya (15 cases) and Labuan (14 cases).

Dr Noor Hisham disclosed that there were 2,293 cases of recoveries while 226 cases were being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of health facilities with 94 patients on ventilators support. — DayakDaily
