Malaysia registers highest number of 2,335 Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26: The Ministry of Health (MoH) disclosed that Malaysia reported 2,335 new cases of Covid-19 today, the highest number of positive cases in a single day since the outbreak began.

Kuala Lumpur and Selangor contributed two-thirds of the country’s total cases with the former reporting 728 cases and Selangor witnessed 710 cases.


Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a press statement, said Kuala Lumpur reported the highest cases in a single day with 93 per cent or 677 new cases identified from existing clusters and screening from close contacts of Covid-19.

He noted two other states which also reported triple digits figures are Johor with 412 cases and Sabah 248 cases.

“There are two new deaths reported which adds to the number of deaths to 451 cases while total active cases reached 20,035 cases.

“The highest number of daily cases has brought the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the country to 103,900 cases.

“There were 874 patients who recovered and were discharged today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 83,414 cases,” he said in a statement.

He added there were 108 patients who were still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of health facilities while 50 patients were on ventilators support.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were also 11 new clusters of Covid-19 identified.

With the additional new clusters, he disclosed that MoH is monitoring 215 clusters of Covid-19 which are still active in the country.

He added that out of the 215 clusters, 59 clusters reported new cases today.

“The clusters which reported increase in cases include Jalan Seng Construction Site Cluster in Kuala Lumpur (232 cases), Tampoi Jaya Cluster (218 cases) in Johor and Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (156 cases) in Selangor,” he added. — DayakDaily
