Malaysia Day to be held in Sibu

KUCHING, July 10: The Malaysia Day celebration will be held in Sarawak for the second year in a row, said Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

According to Saifuddin, themed ā€œMalaysia Prihatinā€, this year’s Malaysia Day celebration was a recognition of all Malaysians and frontliners for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, including the government’s efforts in prioritising the people welfare, through its initiatives such as the Prihatin and Penjana economic stimulus packages.

ā€œThis year’s Malaysia Day has been decided to be held in Sarawak and the state’s government has chosen Sibu to host the celebration. It is very rare that a national celebration in the country is hosted back-to-back by the same state,ā€ he said during a the launching ceremony of Malaysia Day logo held at Wisma Pelita today.

Meanwhile, Minister of Utilities Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the celebration would be held in a closed environment.

Rundi noted that Sibu was selected because the previous Malaysia Day celebration was held in Kuching, and the the coming Sarawak Day on July 22 will be held in Miri. ā€“DayakDaily
