KUCHING, Oct 22: Malaysia Airlines will conduct a comprehensive internal review to determine the cause of a cabin pressure issue experienced by flight MH2742 from Kuala Lumpur to Bintulu on Oct 21, which prompted the flight crew to execute a controlled rapid descent to 10,000 feet before safely landing at Bintulu Airport at 10.31am.

Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said he had been informed of the incident, which occurred mid-flight, and expressed relief that all passengers and crew members were safe.

Lee commended the flight crew for their professionalism and composure in handling the situation in accordance with standard safety procedures.

He said Malaysia Airlines has confirmed that a comprehensive internal review is being conducted to identify the cause of the issue and to prevent a recurrence.

“I have also been informed that Kuching Radar and Bintulu Tower Air Traffic Controllers immediately gave priority clearance to the aircraft, ensuring that it could land safely without delay,” he added.

Lee also expressed appreciation to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), the air traffic control team, and all relevant authorities for their swift and professional coordination throughout the incident.

He assured that the Ministry of Transport Sarawak will continue to closely monitor all flights to, from, and within Sarawak, with passenger safety as its top priority.

“My Ministry will continue to work closely with federal authorities, aviation regulators, and airline operators to ensure that all safety standards and protocols are strictly observed at all times,” he said. — DayakDaily
