SIBU, Oct 28: Whoever wins the Sibu seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) needs to make the town more well-known as it has been “forgotten” by Parliament, says Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting.
“We want to improve Federal services in Sibu so that they won’t forget where Sibu is. So whoever the public elects to go to Parliament, this person must be able to shout ‘Sibu’ very loudly,” said Ting after officiating at the opening of the 2022 Borneo Palliative Care Conference today.
Ting, who is one of the three GPS potential candidates for Sibu seat, added that there are too many services that need to be upgraded in the town.
He pointed out that during a recent announcement by Federal Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, more than 300 sites have been identified to have 5G network rolled-out in Sarawak this year.
However, Sibu has been conspicuously left out for the project to boost Internet connectivity as it will only be implemented in industrial areas such as in Kuching, Miri, and Bintulu.
“This is very sad. How can (Sibu as) a town, be without 5G when the rest will have it? Is it because Peninsular Malaysia has already ‘lupa” (forgotten) where Sibu is?” he wondered. — DayakDaily
