KUCHING, March 29: The Jalan Padawan road upgrading project is expected to benefit approximately 6,000 residents in the district, said the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak in a social media post yesterday.

These include villagers from Kampung Mundai, Kampung Simpok, Kampung Peraya, Kampung Stabut, Kampung Kirian, Kampung Sira, and Pekan Teng Bukap.

As the upgrades progress, it will transform Jalan Padawan into a vital artery that connects various villages, places of worship, schools, clinics, and government administrative offices, promising enhanced accessibility and connectivity for the residents.

Based on the video shared by JKR, the Phase 1 upgrades for the project will cover 14.9km of road from Tapah all the way to Teng Bukap Junction, aligning to JKR R3 road geometry standards.

Currently, road clearing works are underway, with additional tasks including pipeline relocation and protection, slope remediation, soil nailing, installation of additional p-turn traffic points, placement of street lighting and gantry signage, and resurfacing works of the highway at the main entrance slated for completion. — DayakDaily
