KUCHING, March 26: The completion of major infrastructure networks, including bridge projects, the Pan Borneo Highway and the coastal roads, has transformed districts across Sarawak, turning areas such as Sarikei into a key transit hub.

In a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh highlighted that these strategic infrastructure developments are expected to generate economic spillover for local communities while strengthening social interaction among residents.

“When all these transport networks are fully operational, Sarikei will emerge as an important stopover point that directly benefits the people,” he said at the Kuala Rajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Aidilfitri celebration held at the Kampung Seberang Sarikei Multipurpose Hall on Wednesday.

Len Talif, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, further emphasised that nurturing a local workforce of skilled professionals is critical to supporting the implementation of various State development projects, and reducing reliance on foreign labour.

“The Sarawak government plays an important role by providing facilities and free education assistance to Sarawakian children so they can become skilled workers and experts in the required fields,” he said.

He added that the vision and mission of PCDS 2030 provide a clear and comprehensive development direction, covering infrastructure, human capital development and sustainable facilities for the well-being of the people. – DayakDaily
