KUCHING, March 25: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) confirmed that a cybersecurity threat that affected certain computer systems at KL International Airport (KLIA) was detected on March 23, following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s revelation on the matter.

According to Malay Mail, MAHB, in a joint statement with the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa), said an investigation was immediately launched, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) was notified.

“We understand that the operations at KLIA are not impacted and will continue to monitor the situation and support Malaysia Airports,” Nacsa chief executive Ir Megat Zulhairy Megat Tajuddin said in the statement.

Meanwhile, MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani assured that airport operations remain unaffected and that they are working with their airport partners to ensure that flight operations and passenger processing operate normally.

“Technical and operational teams are actively monitoring the situation and implementing necessary measures to safeguard the infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted passenger experience,” he added.

Earlier today, Anwar revealed that hackers breached MAHB’s digital system and demanded US$10 million.

Anwar said the attack occurred ‘one or two days ago’ and stressed that the government refused to comply with the ransom demand, warning that the country’s security would be compromised if its leaders gave in to such criminal threats. — DayakDaily
