KUCHING, Sept 5: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak has detained two enforcement officers on suspicion of demanding a bribe of approximately RM10,000 in exchange for not taking enforcement action against several foreign workers employed by a company.

According to a MACC press statement, the two male suspects, both in their 30s, were remanded for five days until Sept 10 following a remand order issued by Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali at the Kuching Magistrate’s Court earlier this morning, upon MACC’s request.

MACC stated that based on sources, the suspects allegedly requested RM10,000 from the owner of the company as a bribe in return for not taking action against several foreign workers at the company who were suspected of not possessing valid work permits.

The suspects were apprehended between 7pm and 8.30pm yesterday at a fastfood restaurant in Sri Aman.

MACC Sarawak director Hasbilah Mohamad Salleh confirmed the arrests when contacted and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. — DayakDaily
