MA63 meeting went well, issues being refined, says Abang Jo

KUCHING, May 19: The outcome to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Special Cabinet Committee meeting would only be revealed after July 2019.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari assured that the meeting he attended in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week went well with positive results after the technical committee refined and fine-tuned several matters regarding MA63, and the refinement would go on until July 2019.

Among the matters being refined or fine-tuned, he revealed, were revenue sharing and the state’s oil and gas.

“We are looking at revenue sharing according to the constitution, which would be refined by the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economic Affairs, including us (on the) Sarawak and Sabah side.

“The second matter we discussed is our oil and gas revenue,” Abang Johari told reporters after giving out some 800 bubur lambuk organised by Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas), to members of the Satok community and and needy folks at the Hikmah Exchange site office at Jalan Haji Taha this afternoon.

Also at the function were Petra Jaya MP Datuk Fadillah Yusof, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Permodalan Satok Berhad Executive Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Hussain.

When asked on the amendment to Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution, the Chief Minister said the final report or the outcome of the MA63 Special Cabinet Committee meeting would probably be made known after July 2019.

“We have agreed that this refining and fine-tuning process would continue on till July (2019). Meaning after July then maybe there will be a conclusion, and maybe table in Parliament (constitutional amendment),” Abang Johari answered.
