MIRI, May 12: ‘Pasar Minggu Lutong’ (Lutong Sunday Market) was officially launched this morning and is set to be Lutong’s latest landmark.

The market which operates every Sunday can host up to a total of 70 traders.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting when met after the launch expressed his delight with the overwhelming response to the market’s completion.

The construction of the new market began in January this year and was completed on April 29.

“The construction of this market is fully funded by the state government under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project,” Ting said.

The project cost RM200,000.

Ting also disclosed that they would look into the traders’ request for public toilets to be built at the market.

“We also will consider installing electricity at the market for their convenience and placing some garbage bins,” he said.

Meanwhile, Miri Mayor Adam Yii revealed that the city council is planning to construct parking spaces near the market to help ease traffic congestion and as part pf the effort to add more legal parking spaces to cater to demand in the area, especially during peak hours.

Also present was Deputy Mayor Julaihi Mohammad. — DayakDaily
