KUCHING, May 2: Lun Bawang Kuching will host the upcoming 39th Irau Aco Lun Bawang (Lun Bawang Festival), which is scheduled to take place at the Lawas Indoor Stadium from July 2 to 5.
The announcement was made during the Lun Bawang Cultural Night held in conjunction with the 19th Lun Tau Golf Club’s (KGLT) Charity Golf Tournament 2026 at Samarahan Country Club last night (May 1).
Ba’ Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian officiated the cultural night, where he also launched the upcoming 39th edition of the festival, marking the start of preparations for one of the most significant cultural celebrations for the Lun Bawang community.
According to a press release issued by the 19th KGLT Charity Golf Tournament organising committee, Lun Bawang Kuching has been entrusted as the official host for this year’s festival, reflecting its role in coordinating community participation and cultural programming for the event.
KGLT has also been named as a strategic partner in the organisation of the 39th Irau Aco Lun Bawang, strengthening collaboration between community organisations in supporting cultural preservation and outreach efforts.
The partnership is expected to enhance coordination and broaden engagement leading up to the festival, which traditionally serves as a key platform for showcasing Lun Bawang heritage, traditions and unity.
The announcement was made alongside the ongoing charity golf tournament, which drew 120 participants from Kuching, Samarahan, Miri, Bintulu, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.
Held under the theme “Swing for Charity, Putt for Progress”, the tournament also supports several beneficiaries, including the SCC Junior Programme, children with special needs from SMK Tabuan Jaya, BEM Daerah Kuching, and the Lun Bawang Kuching community.
Side programmes throughout the two-day event included mini sports competitions, traditional blowpipe challenges, a 4×4 auto show, food and beverage stalls, and local handicraft exhibitions, creating a vibrant community atmosphere.
Organisers said the combined sporting and cultural initiatives reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen community ties while promoting Lun Bawang identity ahead of the upcoming festival in Lawas. — DayakDaily
