KUCHING, March 12: Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi urged the federal government to set up a board to manage fertilisers and pesticides.
He proposed that the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) collaborate with other ministries especially Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to establish the board when speaking during the Parliament in Kuala Lumpur session on March 9.
The board, he said, can serve to monitor and regulate the prices of fertilisers and pesticides which are considered quite burdensome for the small farmers.
Following this, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities Datuk Siti Aminah Aching revealed that a study on the proposal is underway and the ministry is ready to work together with other ministries towards establishing such a board.
“The ministry was informed that the proposal to set up the fertiliser and pesticide board is currently being studied by KPKM and we (KPK) are ready to work together with KPKM to finetune the proposal,” she said. – DayakDaily
