KUCHING, Sept 19: Water treatment plants in seven districts are now at critical low level due to persistent dry weather throughout Sarawak.

Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) corporate communication and customer service unit in a statement said the divisions affected are at Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Serian, Mukah, Sarikei and Betong.

“However, the overall water supply across Sarawak is still in good condition and we are able to meet the needs of consumers,” the statement said, adding that JBALB divisions are always prepared to face any crisis.

Meanwhile, in Sri Aman Division, eight water treatment plants have been badly affected and they are operating at a minimum level in Bayai, Pantu, Stumbin, Seduku, Lingga, Skrang and Engkelili.

“Therefore, JBALB Sri Aman Division is conducting water rationing at five centralized water collection centers located at JKR Sri Aman, Kedang flats, Sri Aman Prison, Kampung Pakit and Lachau market until 12 midnight.

“Water rationing at Engkelili, Lingga, Stumbin and Sedus Water Treatment Plant is scheduled from 8am to 10am and 3pm to 5pm.”

JBALB also pointed out that water level at Sungai Batang Undup for Air Bayai treatment plant is also declining.

The worsening dry weather and persistent water shortage problem have prompted JBALB Sri Aman to open its operation room from 8am to 10pm. — DayakDaily
