KUCHING, April 5: The normal travelling time of about 10 minutes from Jalan Merdeka to Jalan Astana will be cut short to only one minute with the completion of a new link road located at Lorong Astana 11.

Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the construction of the new link road with a length of one kilometer has commenced on Jan 1 last year and was completed on March 19 this year.

“The total cost of the project amounts to over RM2 million and I thank Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) for implementing the project,” he said when officiating the link road today.

He further said that prior to the link road, road users had to use the road passing Perumahan Lama Fasa 1 to enter Jalan Merdeka before exiting to Jalan Astana and the main road.

“If not, road users would have to use the Kampung Lintang Road en route to here.

“Now, they can go directly from Jalan Astana and use the link road connecting Lorong Astana 11 and Jalan Merdeka,” he explained.

Fazzrudin also informed that the new link road will enable traffic dispersion which has been a prolonged issue in the area.

Also present were DBKU director Mohamed Khaidir Abang and Infrastructure Maintenance Division chief Zaidi Pathi. — DayakDaily
