KUCHING, Aug 27: China-based LONGi Silicon Materials Corp (LONGi) will invest another RM500 million by end of this year for the company’s LONGi Solar (Kuching) Sdn Bhd’s manufacturing facilities at Samajaya Free Industrial Zone (SFIZ).

According to chief executive officer Ngieng Sii Jing, LONGi, the world’s largest manufacturer of solar-grade mono-crystalline silicon products, has invested some RM1.6 billion at SFIZ since spreading its wing to Sarawak.

The facility in Kuching is the first integrated photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing base in the region, producing mono-crystalline silicon, ingots, wafers, cells and modules.

Kuching is LONGi’s first overseas production base since 2016 and it is also the first in the world to have a full supply chain for mono-crystalline silicon products in one single location.

“So the overall total investment will reach over RM2 billion in just three years,” he told reporters after a tour of the facilities by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and a group of delegates from Brunei Darussalam, here, today.
