Longhouse social gathering in Sarikei sparks Sg Selangan Cluster, 101 infected

KUCHING, June 3: A social gathering at a longhouse in Sungai Selangan in Sarikei is at the centre of a new Covid-19 cluster dubbed the Sungai Selangan Cluster which so far has seen 101 people infected.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), this new cluster which was declared by the State Health Department is a community cluster.


Presently, a total of 286 individuals have been screened for Covid-19, with 101 individuals testing positive and the rest testing negative.

SDMC said all the positive cases have been referred and admitted to Sarikei Hospital and to quarantine and low-risk treatment centres in Sarikei for isolation and treatment.

The committee disclosed that the longhouse has been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from May 26 until June 11.

On another note, the State Health Department has declared four Covid-19 clusters ended after no new cases were reported in the past 28 days.

They are the Jalan Bambangan Cluster in Mukah, Kampung Tengah Betong Cluster in Betong, Jalan Roban Lama Cluster in Saratok and the Kemas Cluster in Kuching.

With this, there are a total of 78 active clusters in the State.

Of this, seven clusters reported 102 new cases today. — DayakDaily
