Longhouse Loan Scheme disburses RM182.88 mln, benefiting 289 longhouses in Sarawak

KUCHING, May 14: As of May 2, 2024, the Longhouse Loan Scheme in Sarawak has disbursed a total of RM182.88 million, benefiting 289 longhouses and 6,152 doors, according to Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG) Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim stated that to date, 55 longhouses consisting of 1,182 doors involving an allocation of RM52.6 million have been approved and are pending disbursement.

“Currently, there are 187 longhouses involving 3,704 doors in the waiting list,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech on the seventh day of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.

He went on to say that between 1978 until 2023, the Longhouse Loan Scheme in Sarawak has benefited 1,081 longhouses comprising 23,539 doors.

“This involved an allocation of RM453.3 million with RM250.96 million from the federal government and RM202.34 million from the Sarawak government.

“Since 2022, RM50 million has been allocated annually by the Sarawak government to uplift and expedite the transformation of the living environment in the rural areas and to reduce the long waiting list of longhouse loan applications throughout Sarawak due to the increasing and overwhelming number of applications received to date,” Dr Sim added. — DayakDaily
