High Court schedules trial for preliminary issue in Taib family legal dispute

KUCHING, May 14: The High Court has set the trial dates from Sept 30 to Oct 4, for the preliminary issue involving Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib, Dato Sri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Raghad Kurdi Taib, and RHB Investment Bank Berhad.

Former Governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s sons, Sulaiman and Abu Bekir, have initiated a legal suit against their stepmother, Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, and RHB Investment Bank Berhad.

The suit aims to secure an injunction to prevent the disposal of Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS) shares held under Raghad.

High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai directed that the first defendant present their witnesses first, followed by the second defendant, and finally the plaintiffs.

A further mention of the case is scheduled for Sept 24 to be conducted in person.

Regarding Enclosure 183, which pertains to the amendment application following Abu Bekir’s appointment as the administrator of the late Taib’s estate, and Enclosure 186, the amendment application after Sulaiman’s appointment as the administrator of the late Laila’s estate, further mention is set for June 7, 2024, via Zoom.

The plaintiffs are represented by counsels Alvin Chong and Jonathan Tay. The first defendant, Raghad Kurdi Taib, is represented by counsel Alvin Yong, while the second defendant, RHB Investment Bank Berhad, is represented by counsels Tan Kee Heng and Lesley Ling. ā€” DayakDaily
