KUCHING, Aug 22: The Long Urun Cluster in interior Belaga added 82 new Covid-19 cases today after an overnight surge of 281 cases yesterday.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the Long Urun Cluster recorded the highest number of new cases among all the active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak today.
With this, the cumulative cases for the cluster has increased to 442.
The Long Urun Cluster was announced on Friday (August 20) after 79 longhouse residents in Belaga were confirmed positive for Covid-19.
As of today, a total of 871 people have been swabbed, whereby 227 have tested negative and 202 are still awaiting swab test results.
Among the active clusters in the state, the Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster in Tatau reported the second highest number of new cases today with 53 cases.
The cluster was announced today after residents of a longhouse in Sungai Penyarai in Kakus, Tatau who attended a funeral ceremony had contracted the coronavirus
Meanwhile, there were 19 active clusters in Sarawak which reported a total of 221 new cases today.
Five of the active clusters reported double-digit increases including Long Urun, Sungai Penyarai 2, Bungey 2, Kampung Kakeng and Lorong Cahaya Damai.
The remaining 14 active clusters reported single-digit gains.
They were Tanjung Tuang Cluster which added five new cases, Semada Cluster (5), Jalan Buan Cluster (5), Bandar Riyal Cluster (4), Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster (3), Lubuk Bukut Cluster (3), Jalan Pisang Raja Cluster (3), Jalan Akses Cluster (2), Mega Suai Cluster (2), Kampung Matang Lot (1), Kampung Bunga Cluster (1), Lembah Hijau Cluster (1), Sungai Menok Cluster (1) and Peligong Cluster (1).
There were no active clusters which were declared ended today.
Meanwhile, three new clusters were announced today, namely the Kampung Matang Lot Cluster in Kuching, Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster in Serian and Sungai Penyarai 2 Cluster in Tatau. — DayakDaily
