Local waitress detained for suspected drug trafficking in Miri

MIRI, June 8: Police from the Narcotics Department here have detained a 60-year-old woman during a raid on Thursday (June 6).

The suspect, who is employed as a waitress at a local restaurant, was arrested at a house in the Miri area at approximately 7.30pm.

During the raid, authorities seized 70.20 grammes of suspected drugs, with an estimated street value of RM7,300.50.

In addition to the drugs, the police also confiscated cash and jewellery valued at approximately RM77,000.00, said Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu today.

The suspect was subsequently brought before the Miri Court and remanded from June 7 to June 12 to assist in the ongoing investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted under this section, the suspect faces the death penalty by hanging, or life imprisonment and no less than 12 strokes of the cane. — DayakDaily
