Local fishing trawler caught within prohibited fishing zone

MIRI, Feb 18: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri intercepted and detained a local fishing trawler at about 10.30am yesterday for fishing less than 11 nautical miles off Bakam beach.

Also seized were different types of fish worth about RM30.


MMEA Miri chief Mohd Fauzi Othman said the five crew members, all of them Indonesians, were detained.

“All of them, except for the skipper, have valid documents,” he said in a press statement.

The crew were aged between 35 and 39 years.

The case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 and Immigration Act 1959. — DayakDaily
