KUCHING, Dec 3: The Sarawak Eco-Warriors (SEW), in partnership with Kuching Beach Cleaners (KBC) will be hosting a free virtual session on “Tales from the Mountains” this coming Dec 5, 2020 (Saturday).

According to SEW president Mark Liao in a press statement today, the session will highlight and touch on topics involving cultures, traditions, livelihood and environmental importance of the highland landscape and its residents.

“This project is hosted in conjunction with International Mountains Day, and in line with the Young Southeast Asians Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) YOUnified celebration,” he said.

He noted the session will have two guest speakers, namely an environmental conservation practitioner Cynthia Chin, and book author, Liew Suet Fun.

“Chin had 20 years of experience working with the local communities on conservation, co-management and livelihood projects while Liew has spent the last seven years living in Bario, Sarawak and Larut Hills in Perak, and also has written 18 books on Southeast Asian human society and natural environment, where her book on Bario will be published in early 2021,” he added.

Meanwhile, one of the programme’s volunteer Aaron Liew revealed they hoped to increase awareness of the importance of preserving the local cultures, natural environment and heritage.

“The world is quickly developing and we need to be able to bridge our ancestry with a more inclusive future,” he said.

The virtual session will be held through SEW Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sarawakecowarriors), starting at 8pm. Any inquiries may be forwarded to sarawakecowarrior@gmail.com or Sarawak Eco-Warriors on Facebook and Instagram. — DayakDaily
