KUCHING, July 26: About 20 per cent of projects undertaken by contractors in Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) are not up to the mark.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said these contractors have been blacklisted and were given two years ‘rest’ before they can reapply for projects in MPP areas.

“For projects in MPP areas, I am generally satisfied whereby 80 per cent are of good standard, while 20 per cent are sloppy and these sloppy contractors will be blacklisted for two years before they can reapply to undertake projects (in MPP) area,” the Batu Kitang assemblyman told reporters today at the handing over of a completed RM260,000 grandstand project at Kampung Tematu.

Lo also pointed out that less than two per cent of the contractors have had their contract terminated, and among those was the contractor for the project in Sinar Baru.

He also told reporters that three were about 260 projects in MPP areas this year worth about RM30 million, which covers six state constituencies under three parliamentary seats.

The state constituencies are Tupong, Kota Sentosa, Satok (areas in Segedup), Batu Kawah, Mambong and Batu Kitang, which are under the parliamentary seats of Stampin, Puncak Borneo and Petra Jaya.

On the grandstand project in Kampung Tematu, Lo said it started in Feb 16 and was completed on June 15 this year, and that he was satisfied with how it was carried out.

He said the project would benefit the villagers to organise events and activities on the adjacent football field which was built at a cost of more than RM300,000.

Present at the handing over ceremony were MPP works superintendent Hartini Ahmad and director of Gaya Suci Sdn Bhd Mohamad Aieffie Khalil and the village chief Geofrey Tahang. — DayakDaily
