Livestock breeders want chicken price standardised in Sarawak, Sabah

A dialogue session between KPDNHEP and SLBA held yesterday.

KUCHING, Feb 25: The Sarawak Livestock Breeders Association (SLBA) has called for the price of chicken to be standardised in Sabah and Sarawak, while also hoping the Sarawak government will look into their needs.

Raising these issues during a dialogue session with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has promised to look into their requests.

Nanta noted that chickens and eggs are Malaysians’ primary and cheapest protein sources.

“Stable supply, as well as affordable pricing for Malaysians, are the main agenda of the government.

“Therefore, this bilateral dialogue is important as it is an ongoing engagement and mechanism used in the government’s efforts to understand the problems of breeders and farmers as well as the needs of consumers.

“The government hopes to develop win-win policies and make best decisions for the consumers and producers,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.

Among the matters discussed during the dialogue include the recent shortage of chicken and eggs, factors influencing production, chicken supply in the country, short- and long-term actions regarding feed inputs, dependency on imports and global commodities, and maximum control prices.

KPDNHEP deputy director of Enforcement Division (Operation) Shamsul Nizam and nearly all SLBA main committee members and representatives of all its affiliated associations were present.

The dialogue was also attended by Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Dato Dr Stephen Rundi Utom and his deputies Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and Martin Ben, and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak director Dr Adrian Susin Ambud and his deputy Dr Sajem Jinin. — DayakDaily
