KUCHING, Nov 25: Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor is proposing that the Sarawak government commercialise the planting of ketum ayam or mandre de agua leaves to be used as an alternative animal feed.

She said, according to the founder of Changloon Agro Farm in Changlun, Kedah, Azuwan Azlan, planting the mandre de agua is easy and can be consumed by all farm animals.

“It does not have any negative effect on farm animals. In fact, the livestock gets healthier, and the meat quality is almost equal to organic quality.

“At the same time, the supply of this plant is welcomed throughout the country, including Sabah and Sarawak.

“So, if this plant can be commercialised in Sarawak, then it can directly help the economic growth in the crop and animal husbandry industry,” said Dayang Noorazah in her debate on the Supply (2023) Bill, 2022, in the August house here today.

Meanwhile, she also proposed for drainage repair or upgrading allocations to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to be increased yearly so that flash flood issues can be reduced.

She said, for example, plantations in Maludam and Triso are often destroyed due to overflowing rainwater and flood water during rainy seasons. — DayakDaily
