KUCHING, Jan 23: State Reform Party (STAR) president Lina Soo has echoed Judicial Commissioner Christopher Chin’s remark for adjudicating without fear and favour in Petronas against Sarawak government’s case today.
“The reason Petronas gave in court was like a personal threat to induce Chin to recuse himself for no apparent reason. Petronas, as a national oil company, should not attempt to subvert the course of justice.
“Petronas should accept today’s decision and to appeal against the decision is just a sign of recalcitrance and arrogance of the oil company before the judiciary and the laws of our nation,” Soo said in a statement.
Petronas failed in their attempt to disqualify Chin from hearing the case over Sarawak’s suit for unpaid state sales tax amounting to RM1.3 billion at the Kuching High Court.
In his ruling, Chin had said that Petronas application was affront to the judiciary, frivolous and without merit because and later said his tenure is only temporary.
Patronas lawyers also Chin’s appointment and future depends on the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also the advisor of the giant oil corporation. — DayakDaily
