KUCHING, Feb 22: With Chap Goh Mei (Feb 26) just around the corner, State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is pleading with those celebrating the occasion to limit the celebrations to only immediate family members.

“Especially with Chap Goh Mei celebration coming soon, we (SDMC) plead to the rakyat, please restrict your celebration to your (immediate) family members only,” he said during a press conference to give updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak here today.

He also urged the public not to conduct any visits on the day and to avoid any mass gatherings seeing that the Covid-19 situation in the state has been rather unstable these past weeks.

According to previous Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) released by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing on Chinese New Year celebrations, only immediate family members of not more than 20 people are allowed to attend dinners.

Huge-scale dinners at hotels or restaurants are also prohibited including activities such as open houses, house-to-house visits and other forms of mass celebrations. — DayakDaily
