LIMBANG, Nov 6: A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and three strokes of the cane for physically sexually assaulting a child in Limbang.
According to a TVS report, the local man was sentenced by the Limbang Court yesterday (Nov 5) after being found guilty of the offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Limbang District Police Chief Superintendent Parum Niot said the court also ordered the accused to undergo rehabilitation throughout his imprisonment.
He said the accused would be placed under police supervision for one year after completing his sentence.
“The court also ordered the accused’s family members not to approach or harass the victim,” he said.
Parum said police received a report on the sexual offence on Oct 7, prompting Limbang police to open an investigation paper under the relevant provision of the Act.
Investigations led to the arrest of the suspect on Oct 12. —DayakDaily
