Leong Lai Wah, former DCM’s mother, to be laid to rest today

MIRI, May 9: The remains of former Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Dr George Chan Hong Nam’s mother, Leong Lai Wah, who passed away on Tuesday (May 7) in Miri will be brought to Riam Chinese Cemetery to be laid to rest today.

Leong, 104, passed away at her residence in Tanjong Lobang on May 7 at 3pm.

Head-of-the State Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to attend the funeral ceremony and pay his last respects today around 11am.

On Wednesday morning (May 8), Miri Mayor Adam Yii and former Mayor Dato’ Wee Han Wen were amongst attendees who were present to pay their last respects to Leong, at her residence in Tanjong Lobang here.

Also paying his respects was Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

Meanwhile, last night, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting and former Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui were among those visiting the residence.

Seen receiving mourners were Chan, his wife, Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon, and Chan’s siblings and relatives. — DayakDaily
