KUCHING, June 23: Grammy Award winning band Gipsy Kings are set to captivate festivalgoers with their hit songs, including ‘Bamboléo’ when they perform at the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2023 tomorrow night (June 24).
The band, which hails from France, were founded in 1978 and have gone to create various hit songs played along to Catalan rumba, flamenco, salsa and pop rhythms.
“We are proud to share our genre of music with the festivalgoers at RWMF 2023, and we are glad to be here for the first time,” said band member and lead guitarist Antoine ‘Tonino’ Baliardo during a media press conference held at Casuarina Hall, Damai Beach Resort Hotel here today.
“The hot and humid weather will not be an obstacle for us to perform as we too want to enjoy the festival atmosphere as well,” Baliardo said.
Band members on tour with them in Kuching include Nicolas Reyes, Canut Reyes and Andre Reyes.
The 26th edition of RWMF will be held from today to June 25 at Sarawak Cultural Village in Kuching and will feature 199 musicians from 12 countries across three continents performing a diverse range of music.
The festival will showcase performances from local musicians such as Zee Avi, Suk Binie, Apu, Nadir, Steve Thornton Band, Sada Borneo, Tuku Kame, Nading Rhapsody, Geng Wak Long, Buloh Berkocak, At Adau, Merukad and Orang Orang Drum. — DayakDaily
