MIRI, June 8: Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin pledged RM30,000 to Sarawak Teacher’s Union (STU) to purchase seven smart projectors worth RM3,000 each while the balance will be used for teachers’ educational training programmes to upgrade teaching skills in utilising Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

This was announced last night during STU’s Gawai Dayak dinner gathering at a leading hotel here.

Earlier the same day, a total of 11 STU Division Secretaries from across the whole of Sarawak converged in Miri for the 3rd EXCO meeting to share and propose the way forward for the development of education and to highlight issues concerning the betterment of teachers in Sarawak.

“The education sector is ever-changing and constantly evolving from one generation to another generation; therefore, educators are facing different challenges every year,” Lee said.

His speech text was read out at the dinner by his representative Cr Jeffery Phang.

“I hope educators can continue to stay motivated in teaching your students. Never give up on them, for every child can be a shining gem if they are well-polished,” Lee added.

Meanwhile, Lee hoped STU can continue to serve as the proper platform for teachers in Sarawak through which to channel any matters related to their professional advancement as well as their rights and welfare to the relevant authorities.

Also present was STU’s president Adam Prakash Abdullah. — DayakDaily
