MIRI, Nov 21: Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin attributed Miri’s successful elevation into a city in 2005 to the excellent coverage by local media.

“Thank you for your contributions in giving good coverage about Miri that allowed us to achieve the city status,” Lee said, during the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association’s (NSJA) 45th anniversary celebration held on Wednesday night at a hotel here.

Also present were Senator Alan Ling, Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Gerawat Gala, Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon, Mayor Adam Yii, former Mayor Datuk Lawrence Lai, the NSJA committee and some 500 attendees.

On another note, Lee also called on journalists to uphold strong journalism ethics in their reporting.

“Be responsible journalists, uphold journalism ethics with an emphasis on truthfulness, objectivity, fairness and honesty,” he exhorted members of the media present. — DayakDaily
